It is an honor and privilege to serve my public health nurse colleagues and friends as your president of the Illinois Public Health Nurse Administrators. Pat Donald, past president, took the initiative to initiate change by establishing work groups to do some of the important work by IPHNA – giving members an opportunity to promote public health nursing in many different ways. Building the infrastructure will help Public Health Nurses to be in the forefront of building public health leadership within the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Department of Human Services.

The implementation of the Public Health Nurse Toolbox by IPHNA has assisted us in building the infrastructure. We hope to keep this as a current and valuable tool to orient public health nurses and other public health workers to the practice of public health.

The Toolbox is available on this site.

I believe that we need to attack the problem of the nursing shortage but particularly as related to public health. We need to encourage young people to consider going into the public health.

We will try to keep everyone updated with “news in the field” by keeping the website current. Please make plans now to join us at Allerton, Thursday and Friday, May 7 and 8, 2009, for our annual Conference.

Illinois is a healthier place to live due to your devotion and work in public health.
